What To Watch Out For If Wearing Nude

"Very Good Girls" New York Premiere

Quick summary: When wearing the colour nude, you have to make sure it will work with your skin colour. Otherwise it can become highly uncomplimentary to your complexion. As with any colour, picking the right one is essential to create a flattering look for yourself. See Maggie Gyllenhaal wearing a nude jumpsuit and notice the way she looks washed out and how it unflatters her skin tone. As well as this, Zoe Kazan makes the mistake of mixing two completely different and conflicting fabrics and Rachel McAdams choses the incorrect dress style to flatter her lovely figure.

 Article Extract:
Nude is one of the trickiest shades to pull off. And this week, Maggie Gyllenhaal tripped up wearing a flesh-colored jumpsuit thus proving our point.

A basic rule: When it comes to nude, finding the right color is crucial as it can easily become unflattering and wash you out. A good tip is to always go with a nude color that is a few shades lighter or darker than your natural skin tone to ensure that you don’t look naked.

“Kaftaneology” – The Fashion You Have to Discover in Wearing Silk Kaftans

Everything You Need to Know About Kaftans

Fashion icons around the globe continue to wear a kaftan to create a unique fashion statement. Kaftans have been around for centuries, and it was mainly used by those who live in the Middle East during its early years. Back then, only people who belong to the upper class wore Kaftans. Those who had high social significance were dressed in a kaftan, and it somehow became a symbol of their prominence in the society.

In contrary to its earlier use, kaftans are rising in popularity nowadays because of its unique and sophisticated design. Aside from being used in Middle East countries, it is also becoming more and more mainstream even in modern-day societies. For those who aren’t familiar with how a kaftan looks like, it is a long-sleeved overdress that extends up to the ankles.

The materials used to build kaftan widely varies. Since it is now a popular merchandise of fashion lovers, a wide array of fabric options are now available. The common fabrics used in the creation of this very iconic piece are cotton, silk, cashmere and wool. Your choice of fabric is highly dependent on your own preference. In addition to wearing a kaftan as is, you can also add more spice to your outfit by wearing a sash.

Since kaftans have now become a part of the fashion world, various designers now modify its design to further meet the demand of consumers, young and old. Today, kaftans are important fashion pieces of even A-list actors in Hollywood. Truly, this is proof of how kaftans are being embraced by the fashion industry throughout the globe.

If you are having problems with looking for sellers of fashionable kaftan pieces, you do not need to look any further because there are many online stores that now deliver kaftan dresses. However, take not that not all online sellers are reliable and trust-worthy. Before you click that ‘buy now’ button, it is best that you read the reviews and research on the credibility of the shop first. Anyway, it always pays off to do your research first because it is always better to be wary than be sorry later.

Kaftan as an Everyday Cloth Statement

If you are looking for a versatile piece, then buying kaftans is definitely your best option. As mentioned earlier, kaftans nowadays are designed in a way that fashion aficionados and ordinary consumers would greatly appreciate. Whether you are going to stroll in the mall or walk on parks, kaftan is absolutely your best pick.

Aside from using kaftans as a casual wear, you can also turn this piece into an office wear. Yes, there are definitely women belonging to the working class who use kaftan as a part of their daily ensemble. All you need to do is pick the best fabric and pair it with the right accessories, and voila, you’re on your way to becoming a goddess of fashion and glamour. Lastly, don’t forget the importance of picking the right pair of shoes. No matter how great your ensemble is, if your shoes are entirely out of place, you will surely be in for a fashion disaster.

In the Beach

Ask any woman, and I am sure that there is one thing that will never be left missing in their summer wardrobe, and that’s beach cover ups.Other than protecting the skin against damaging sun rays, beach cover ups are also a great way to turn that beachside into a runway. Beach kaftan dresses are a unique and ultimately stylish way to turn heads while you are having fun under the sun. This beach wear can make any woman look hot and oozing with sex appeal.

In the like manner, these sexy beach cover ups can make you feel sexy and comfortable at the same time. If you are not in the mood to show off your skin, wearing beach kaftan dresses is your best option. Additionally, if you have not prepared your body for a day or two at the beach, kaftan dresses will have all your need to conceal covered.

With a pair of bikinis, a kaftan dress and a pair of sunnies at hand, you can make that beach body sizzle in hotness in no time.

Do it the Celebrity Way

Pregnant or not, Angelina Jolie and Beyonce Knowles certainly look like they enjoy wearing this comfortable and elegant piece even during their red carpet moments. Other well-known celebrities who resembled goddesses when they wore their kaftan dresses are Miranda Kerr, Paris Hilton and Oprah Winfrey.

To spice up the outfit, Miranda Kerr used a pair of jeans to complement her kaftan dress. In another event, she was spotted wearing a kaftan dress that’s above the knee area. She made this dress look more awesome by choosing a flat pair of sandals that greatly matched her dress.

Kaftan dresses come in all shapes, sizes and designs, and there is no need to wonder why a lot of famous and top of the line designers create their own kaftan pieces. Whether you are attending a formal occasion or a casual one, there will always be a kaftan dress that could feed your need to be stylish and awesome.

Aside from the variation in length and style, kaftan dresses are also available in plains and prints. Most of the plain kaftan dresses are made more fabulous and sophisticated by a rich lining of embroidered stones.

Your choice of kaftan dress highly depends on the occasion. If you want to use it as an everyday dress, pair it with the right accessories, let your hair down and you’re good to go. If, on the other hand, you are reserving it for a formal occasion, choose the embroidered ones as they elicit a more formal and classy vibe.

Kaftans are definitely a must-have in every woman’s closet. No matter what the event is, your kaftan dresses will never let you down.

When Sewing Becomes Art – The Creation Process of a Tailored Silk Shirt

As a tailor, sewing is part of my life. But it’s one thing to simply sew, and another thing to create works of art.High quality silk top

Yesterday, I believe I did the latter with a new garment I created for a client.

The first things you need to create a piece of art are lots knowledge, skill and time! The next essentials you must have are fabric, garment style, cutting tools, and sewing tools. I guess there’s never just one way to get a great outcome. You might sew the fabric first and then think of the style. Alternatively, you might have your idea style and then search for the fabric.

In this case, the gorgeous printed silk chiffon caught our eyes, and my client liked it very much. With the piece of light purple and pink silk satin as lining, it emphasises the floral pattern. But the big question was whether the fabric would suit style that we’d chosen?

When I looked at the fabric, the floral pattern quite prominent, so we decided to keep things simple and go with the sleeveless option. I firstly tried to cut the whole bunch of flowers to fit down the front. It looked ok, but still like something you see in shops every day. We wanted something special, something unique. We tried a couple more things but it still didn’t look that good.

Finally we create a big silk butterfly, skilfully hung around the neck. This looked gorgeous, and gave us the classy look we’d been trying to capture. As an aside – when we cut off the butterfly pieces, I just wanted to use the machine quickly to sew the seams up. But unfortunately, silk chiffon and silk sadden pucker up under the sewing machine if you attempt to sew them together pucker. So I had no choice but to hand stitch all the butterfly piece together and then carefully hand stitch the butterfly on the garment.

Finally, we had created our piece of art! I am very happy with the result J

Intellectual beauty – The Woman’s Silk Shirt

Silk was invented by Chinese over 5000 years ago, yet after so many years it is still considered to be one of the more luxurious fabrics on the market today. Why is this you ask? Well let’s have a closer look…

silk kaftan

Silk has the ability to withstand great pulling pressure, commonly referred to as silk’s tensile strength, and is considered to be the strongest natural fibre out there with reasonable abrasion resistance. This is mainly due to the length of the fibre and weave, however it must be noted that in comparison spun silk is considerably stronger than a silk thrown filament yarn.

Composed of fibroin and sericin, which in plain terms is protein and silk gum, allows for good wicking capability of silk. However, it is really only the natural protein in this composition which is responsible for its good absorbency, as it can draw away approximately 11% of its weight in moisture away from the body. This in turn makes silk comfortable all year round as it is cool in summer and warm during those cooler months of winter.

Due to silk’s good absorbency, it in turn has good affinity for dyes. Once dyed, silk is considered colorfast in most conditions, thus the amount of beautiful printed and dyed silk fabrics you see on the market today that have been tailored to create the beautifully draped garments in the latest Blue Jade range: http://staging2.bluejade.com.au/women/

With such excellent drapabiliity, the suppleness of silk feels amazing on the skin. This is due to the stimulation of sensory receptors in the somatosensory cortex of the brain producing neurotransmitters which promote pleasurable feelings for the consumer.

With all of this in mind, it is not hard to understand why silk is such a dominate figure in the market today.
For today’s modern female, this is the perfect fibre as it is smart, comfortable and yet elegant, making it suitable fo

r any professional environment. It has the ability to lift your self-confidence and energy, as you present yourself with intellectual beauty and steam ahead in the latest fashions while tackling today’s competitive workforce.

We, as fashion lovers always seem to invest a lot in evening wear, which lets face it; we only really get minimal use out of. So, my question to you is: why not find a small selection of high quality silk garments that you can wear to work for that 8 hour day which makes you feel fabulous and standout from the crowd; be that an important meeting or a corporate event.

In the workplace, you will want to ensure you have the correct fit, am I right? And those massive sweat patches from a synthetic fibre isn’t exactly professional, yeah? It does seems silly that with today’s technology there are still people wondering the corridors with such issues when the solution has been in front of us all along! In no means are we limited by just one type of silk either, as there is a wide range to choose from such as; georgette, chiffon, satin silk, sheer, stretch, different weights and the list goes on.

Here at Blue Jade, we carefully select the finest of silk fabrics and ensure the fabric will embody the most flattering designs. We also provide a made to measure service, where you can work with us to create your perfect garment. With the priority being you, feel free to contact us with any of your ideas, we love to help.

Feedback from a happy customer!

“Thank you very much to Blue Jade for the wonderful shirts. They breath really well, they wear well, they look smart.
Also they don’t melt when I iron them like my polyester shirts!
One of my Year 10 students commented the other day, and said “Nice shirt Mr. Harvey!” Coming from a 16 year old – that’s saying something!
The material is great for a teacher who is always active. I meet with with people all the time, I’m in the classroom, I do drama classes and I’m out on yard duty in the rain and the sun.
The shirts cope with all this beautifully.
I’ve got to admit – cotton is cool!”

How to Build a Man’s Business-Wardrobe

For men, their business attire their reputation and character. Dressing well means much more than shirt and tie; trousers and a suit. Check out the following tips to find out how to bring some class to your wardrobe.monday

Make sure the material is natural. The best is 100% cotton or a cotton combination with another fiber. Never have polyester shirts in your business wardrobe as they do not allow your skin to breath. You must have ten long sleeve shirts – basically white and light blue color (there’s no such thing as a short sleeve dress shirt). Different colours and different pattern represent different meanings. Monday you need to dress up bright and sharp to draw back the energy from weekend. Sometime you want to show your care and patience, so a small checked shirt is not a bad choice. If you want to stand out more then you should made to measure to add some detail to your shirt.

Should be silk, understated and coordinated with your shirt. Ties should always end at the top of your belt. Recently, bow ties have come back into fashion, so pick one up for your wardrobe in case you feel like making a statement!

Have five pairs of trousers for Monday to Friday. Colours are traditionally navy and black (camel is optional). Again good quality fabric is important to make sure the trousers you wear are not easy to crinkle. If there are some fully wrinkles, please throw them away.

You must have two or three very good quality suits must have. Wear a duck colour to show you serious, or a lighter colour for a more modern look.

No matter how the fashion world evolves, the most important element of every man’s business-wardrobe is classic formality.

The mini dress is back (with a few twists!)

mini dress 2If you are a keen fashion follower, you would have discovered that the mini dress is back to the front stage.

Why? Because it’s cute. Because it’s vivacious. Because it’s a fashion classic.

I’d like to introduce this gorgeous mini dress to you – exclusively from Blue Jade.

When I first glanced at this lovely sheer silk fabric, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. The generous floral pattern combined with strong color creates a kind of beauty that’s hard to find.

mini dress - fabric

The striking fabric gave me the idea to design this elegant unusual cut mini dress.

On the left side, there is a ¾ sleeve with open shoulder split (to show your gentle side); but right hand side is sleeveless (which shows off your wild side).

Inside, we picked a good quality silk and cotton fabric as the lining, and cut a simple shift dress about 80cm long.

The sheer silk dress is bias-cut about 25cm longer then the lining, and the simple round neck with bias-cut self banding finished.

Whether you’re at a gathering, party or evening-out – your dress will be the talk of the party!mini dress 1

Insights into tailoring a lace top

My latest project is this beautiful lace top.

lace top

My client bought the lace from Sydney, the lace made from cotton and silk, over $100 per meter. I found the silk satin lining for her (from seletivefinefabrics.com.au at $70 per meter).

For such high quality lace, lining is very important. You cannot use same color or lighter color underneath.

If  you use a deep colored lining, it makes the lace stand out more. With this in mind, I picked this peach color to contrast against the dark cream lace.

When you cut a lace outfit, it’s better to create a fitted look rather than lose. This will make you look more slim and elegant. The neck-line and armhole looks better finished with hand sewing to make it looks more even and smooth.

We made the lining almost 7cm shorter and cut the lace with self pattern shape, looks even more prettier compared to just cutting and sewing straight.
